About Ashbydesign
Ashbydesign is a one-woman company, and that woman is me, Melanie Ashby. I hail from a journalistic background, but I've accrued more than 10 years layout and design experience while working for newspapers and small-scale magazines where I took the lead on in-house design as well as editorial. Ashbydesign was set up following a decision to focus my career on graphic and web design.
Work practice
I work collaboratively with other freelancers - programmers, technicians and experts in specialist fields such as photography, to tailor services to the needs of each project.
Collaborators include: Phil Coates (CMS, hosting, programming), Rob Palmer (Wordpress), Russell Ward (Joomla), Asier de Quadra (design consultant)
Specialist experience in publishing
In-depth experience of the book trade, publishing and creative writing/ers derives from a long-term and ongoing relationship with Mslexia magazine as both a designer and as an editorial advisor. Many of Ashbydesign's clients are published authors (e.g. historical novelist Annie Murray), independent publishers (e.g Diamond Twig) as well as literary organisations (e.g. Modern Poetry in Translation) and agencies (e.g. New Writing North).
